I was thinking about what would have to be one of my favourite supplement, and I must say magnesium came up straight away. So many of my clients have taken magnesium supplementation and the impact it has is just incredible! I thought I’d share with you some information to give you a bit of a background on magnesium and why it’s so beneficial – enjoy! Magnesium is one of the most abundant minerals around – however, despite its natural abundance many people are deficient in magnesium in varying degrees. WHY?
  • People may have a diet that lacks good nutritional quality. It’s quite common now for people in developed countries to turn to ‘fast’ foods, however a lot of these foods are packed with energy (kJ/Cal), but provide very little nutrition.
  • STRESS – When people are feeling the pinch – it creates an increased need in within the body for magnesium. This is because magnesium is considered to be the ‘Chill Out Mineral’. Studies have shown this is not just the case with intensely stressful times, but also chronic stress as well.

What can magnesium do for you?

Magnesium is used within the body in many (as in, around 300) processes like:

It helps nerves to fire off their signals

It is required to build proteins

It’s also necessary for cells to utilize energy from food.

Magnesium acts as a muscle relaxant, so it can take you out of that state of tension. This means that it’s great for muscle spasms or cramps and restless legs. Being a relaxant, it can also help you not only get to sleep but have a better-quality sleep too! So, if you find yourself:
  • Fatigued
  • Suffering from brain fog
  • Decreased attention span
  • Having sleep problems
  • Experiencing muscle cramps or aches and pains
  • Increasingly irritable
Then you may need to consider supplementing with magnesium to help you get back on track. There are many various magnesium supplements available, so it’s always best to have a chat with your health care practitioner to work out which formula would be the best for you.
